P.S. I Love You [Blu-ray]

P.S. I Love You [Blu-ray]

Buy a new outfit. Be a disco diva. Learn to fish. Take a chance. Travel. Laugh. Love. Sometimes all you need to start really living is a little shove in the right direction – and that’s just what Holly Kennedy gets. From the handsome, big-hearted love of her life. From a series of mysterious letters. And from gal pals who know that a friend in need is a friend in need of some laughs! Based on Cecelia Ahern’s joyful bestseller and boasting a top cast led by two-time Academy Award® winner* Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler (300), P.S. I Love You is your very own message full of fun, love, triumph and romance. Open it now. (P.S. You’ll love it!)For those who believe true love lasts beyond this physical plane, P.S. I Love You is a jewel in the romantic-movie crown. With elements of Ghost, Heaven Can Wait, and My Life, the film is an unabashed valentine to the notion of lasting (everlasting?) love. Hilary Swank is Holly, a deeply happy lass married to the most impossibly adorable Irishman on the planet, Gerry (Gerard Butler). When an illness takes him from her, Holly spirals into depression. Then, as if from beyond the grave, communications, gifts, and remembrances from Gerry begin to appear–gestures he’d planned knowing his death was coming. The “communications” with her dead husband could threatened to keep Holly in past, yet they begin to pave a path into her future.

Swank, not a traditional romantic actress, is quite moving as Holly, whose grief and confusion is palpable. Butler will win new continents of fans, largely female, as the yummiest honey one could wish for. Special kudos to the supporting cast, including Lisa Kudrow as a Holly pal, and James Marsters and Kathy Bates, always breaths of fresh air onscreen. Under the sure hand of director-writer Richard LaGravenese, P.S. I Love You is touching, sad (have tissues on hand), and heartbreakingly lovely. –A.T. Hurley

4 Stars Good movie and good extras
P.S. I love you is a good movie, and this DVD comes with deleted scenes and a commentary (which I have yet to watch!) I don’t typically like chick flicks, but I am a fan of this movie. The deleted scenes were awesome too!

5 Stars One of the Best Movies I’ve Seen
This a a story that touches your heart and can be watched over and over again.

4 Stars Much better then I though it would be!
What an original movie! I loved all the parts and loved the whole cast and characters.

1 Stars Tasteless
Whoever dredged up the concept for this movie must either be desperate or sick, or both. The thought of receiving frequent letters from your dead partner over the space of a year after his death is a slap in the face for grief, common sense and mental health. That a reviewer (someone from ‘Westwood One’ - who the heck are they ?) endorsement on the front cover of the Blu-Ray is quoted as describing this as ‘The best romantic comedy in a very long time’ defies belief ! If I had been able to see that sole ‘official’ review on the case I would never have made the purchase. Remember, if they can only get a positive review for publicity from someone/somewhere you’ve never heard of, caveat emptor applies. BEWARE !

This movie is neither romantic nor remotely funny. The Amazon official review warns you to have tissues on standby - they are not for tears, rather your stomach contents as you wade your way through this tasteless and unfunny film. Did it even have a theatrical release ? I’d be surprised, as in my opinion, it doesn’t even deserve a straight to DVD release.

There seems little point in commenting on the acting as the script and concept are so repugnant you don’t even notice the actors that much.

Not only was this tasteless it was also extremely boring. How this could be described as a romantic comedy is beyond my comprehension. How others can swoon over it is also beyond my understanding, as this film trawls the bottom-of-the-genuinely-tasteless barrel.

One star, as you cannot leave less - although I would sincerely like to !
