5 Stars awe
i am really impressed with the picture i am getting out of it. i don’t know much about special features, i just really like the picture quality.
5 Stars A worthwhile upgrade
When we purchased a new (our first) HDTV we followed the advice of friends and purchased a Blu-Ray disk player as well. The Samsung TV page offered the Samsung Blu-Ray player at a discount if we purchased it WITH the TV, so we did.
It works very well on both Blu-Ray movies and our old non-Blu-Ray DVDs. The old DVD’s look crisper and I believe this player upgrades the image. Or, could it simply be the HDTV? I would like to compare the same “old” movie on this and a friend’s Sony Blu-Ray player and see if there is any difference, but have not had the time.

5 Stars Great player for a very good price
I have owned this blu-ray player for 6 months now and have never had a problem. It has a very neat look, and plays blu-ray as well as DVDs. Some CD formats are not supported, but I don’t use CDs that much. Overall its a great product for a very good price.
5 Stars Blu Ray
the sony bdps550 is a great blu ray machine. it is simple to operate and delivers great video as well as sound. thanks sony
5 Stars Own both the BPD-S550 and S-350, and both are great
I have both the BDP-S350 and BPD-S550. The 550 runs my main TV & audio system, which is why having 7.1 analog channels is important for me. The only other real difference (that can’t be updated/upgraded around) I’ve found between the 2 is that the remote controll on the 550 has a light, and the 350 does not. I’ve owen both players for about 7 months, and load times have improved with some of the recent updates. I have an 120hz Vizio 1080p TV, and the picture is amazing in high def.

5 Stars Well…I just ordered it
I’ve been tracking this BD player for sometime now an in reading up came across the attached review (http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/dvd-players/439-a-secrets-dvd-blu-ray-player-benchmark-review.html) which I think is very beneficial for anyone considering this player. [...]
It may have average DVD performance, but the key here is to understand that this player has “Blue Ray” functionality as its primary role and for that you have little out there that can touch this. Also, for those with a superior AVR (like the Denon 4308i) this is simply a no brainer…
I just ordered mine (yes from Amazon) and looking forward to test this out with my AVR 4308i - will post an update just as soon as I’m ready to do so…stay tuned!
5 Stars Worth the extra money
Very good product, keep one thing in mind. The audio only comes through the HDMI connection so if your reciever only has optical audio inputs (or Thing is this is the only way to have the “lossless” audio we have been reading about. There is no question this is the best sound available but make sure your reciever works with this.
5 Stars Perfect HT Blu-Ray/DVD Player
For my new dedicated home theater, I purchased the Denon AVR-4308CI, which is awesome. At the same time I purchased the Sony BDP-S550 to save a few bucks. Big mistake. Once everthing was hooked up, the Sony was sooo slow loading movies and I couldn’t figure out how to get rid of the aggrevating BDlive menu every time I went to watch a movie. I realized I made a bad choice, it was taking away from the whole HT experience for me.
Well, Amazon offered the Denon DVD-2500BTCI FREE with purchase of Denon AV recievers shortly after I had ordered and recieved my AVR-4308CI . I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask them to consider my purchase for this offer. I didn’t have my hopes too high, but Amazon has truly awesome customer support and they actually sent me this Denon Blu-Ray player for free. I gave the Sony to my son and hooked up the Denon, and WOW, what a difference! This thing loads very fast and the quality of the unit itself is great, not to mention it matches the look of my AV receiver perfectly. The quality of the audio and video even seem to be better than the Sony.
If you are looking at the Sony BDP-S550, and your gear is HDMI capable, do yourself a favor and spring for the extra bucks to get this Denon, you won’t be sorry.

5 Stars perfect for camper
i bought to use on my deck of my camper.my other tvs i had trouble seeing.this tv ajusts to the different light each day.i have a 42in. for inside camper also a aquos. thank you aquos…
5 Stars Just Great - Should sell millions.
I Could not find my tv here or at the Sharp website. It may have been made for the military PX only. I have the 42 inch version of this tv. (LC-42BD80U). Well, I’m just a consumer who has looked at and read reviews on Plasma/LCD TVs for the last 5-6 years before I purchased my first one last year. (Samsung 46 inch 1080p) I don’t know alot of spec lingo or jargon. All I know is that this TV is great to own and the price is good. I may have gotten it for a little less do to not having to pay tax at the PX and was given an additional discount for using a PX credit card for the fist time and no intrest for 6 months. I set the TV up and started watching TV within 30-40 minutes. I like the features, pictures and look. The only problem I had until I called Sharp was that my remote did not work when a dvd was in. The movie played fine, but I could not get it to stop, pause, fast foward of anything. 10 minutes on the phone and that problem was hsitory. I read the other reviews before mind and feel that sometimes “what you don’t know you won’t miss”. I feel this will apply to the average buyer. The possitives over rides any negatives. We can find something negative in everthing we buy. You’ll have to look hard here.
1. TV Setup: TV is well packaged and protected. The Owners Manual is detailed and understandable. You must attach the base stand to the TV unless you intend to wall hang it. The black lacquer stand attaches easily using phillips screws and a screwdriver provided. All plastic protective coverings stayed on the TV and stand until final placement because black lacquer surfaces and LCD screens attract fingerprints and scratches. The base doesn’t swivel or tilt. It is hefty and supports the TV very well.
2. Inputs abound: Seven inputs can handle most sources. They include three HDMI HDCP inputs, an Analog PC input, and various component/S-video/composite combos. Additionally, a USB input (called a Service Terminal) is provided for future firmware updates. I have an HD TiVo with HD Digital Cable service connected via HDMI. The TV and TiVo synched perfectly and the TV automatically labeled this input as TiVo…cool feature. Picture controls are adjustable for each input and maintain their settings.
3. Blu-ray Player (Profile 1.1, upgradeable): The DVD player forms a slight bulge on the rear right of the TV and is not obvious. It has a USB port for memory expansion and an ethernet port for future BD-Live capability. When a DVD is inserted into the loading slot, the TV switches to DVD input, reads the type disc and begins playing. Very easy to use! I tested two Blu-ray DVDs and two conventional DVDs without a hitch. Blu-ray DVDs took just under two minutes to load their data and play. Conventional DVDs took less than a minute. Commercial or homemade music CDs also work, however homemade MP-3 music disks will not play. The DVD player initially makes slight noises as the disk is loading. Once play starts it is silent. If there is a fan, it is very quiet. DVD functionality seems very well integrated into the electronics, remote control, and overall operation of this TV.
4. Limitations of the Blu-ray player: First, audio output to A/V receivers is bitstream via optical output in Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2-channel PCM. Analog 2-channel rca outputs are also provided. None of the next generation audio formats found on Blu-ray DVDs, i.e., Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, can be output. Second, if the player fails I must return the entire TV for service. Third, this is a profile 1.1 player. The owners manual indicates it will be upgradeable to profile 2.0 at a future date. If you can live with these limitations (which I can), then convenience, space savings, and ease of use make this a valuable addition.
5. Performance: Overall excellent picture with Standard and High Definition sources, after some adjustment. Sound is about average for this size TV. Bass and Treble, along with a Surround mode are adjustable. Blu-ray DVDs display exceptional video quality. HD Cable programs are pristine. Normal DVDs look very good. Sound is boosted slightly when playing DVDs and I perceived a very slight improvement in overall dynamics. Out of the box, after some adjustments, this TV exhibits a very slight red push…not a deal breaker. This means reds were somewhat over emphasized in all picture modes. Luckily, the Color Management System allows very detailed adjustment of each of six colors in Hue, Saturation, and Value (brightness). This is in addition to the normal contrast, tint, brightness, and color controls. Additionally, backlight is adjustable (from off to full on) as are video noise reduction controls. I’m sure with the help of my Avia test DVD and some experimenting, I’ll be able to tweak the picture to my liking.
6. Summary: I’m very satisfied at this point. Factoring the price of a separate Blu-ray player into the price of a quality 1080p 32inch LCD TV makes this combo a reasonable alternative to separate components in my view. Limitations aside, the convenience of having a well integrated DVD player attached to a TV makes sense for many folks.

5 Stars My First Blu-Ray!
Sharp Aquos BDHP20U 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player
This is our first experience with a “re-conditioned” electronic and we are very pleased so far. Not knowing what to expect, going only by what I’ve read, the Sharp Aquos is really an improvement over our previous DVD players. The unit has run perfectly since connected and, yes, everything was included to connect.
We, also, were very pleased with the swiftness in the shipping of this order!
Will most definately consider more economical purchases in the future.

5 Stars Nothing short of excellent!
Six months have now passed since we received our BD35K and we haven't had anything to complain about with this equipment. We are happy with the set-up and find it to play each and every Blu-Ray we have put into it. With some rental disks, the scratches can cause the picture and sound to freeze and break up a little, but as we can tell that's no fault of the player.
The player itself loads quickly, is relatively quiet but does take a little time to turn on and eject to accept a disk.... but what's 20 sec, right? The remote is also relatively small and very easy to learn and use.
The images are always clear and crisp, with beautiful sound from all the latest movie releases. Some movies that have been outstanding to watch have been Iron Man, Hellboy 2, The Mist and Wall-E. Even a few older films are top quality, such as Road Warrior but we have found this is dependent on the transfer process (and quality) of the movie to Blu-Ray. Each movie has always looked as good as it did on the big screen and in some cases better!
Even regular DVD's play better than they would on our DVD player. I've watched a few movies and compared to the Blu-Ray versions, namely Transformers and Blood Diamond. It sometimes tricks you into thinking you're watching something more than just DVD, the "up-scaling" quality is that good.
We haven't set up surround sound yet and use it with a Vizio 120 Hz LCD, but feel the audio and video quality are transferred well. From seeing the reviews some people just didn't find the right match-up with TV but I guess we were lucky. There have been no problems with cables or connections so far... it was just plug and play with a cheap (but good quality) HDMI 6ft 1080P cable [...]
Somehow the price has doubled since the before-Christmas sales, so I’m surprised, but also pleased at the same time, that the deal we received was an awesome one. If you can wait until the price drops again below $250 like we did, do it!
5 Stars Just one wish
Early impressions are solid! Definition superb, features good. I kinda wish I had sprung for the BD55 because of the Dolby surround sound but that’s for another day. Unless you’d like to buy this from me for what I paid?
5 Stars Very satisfied
I’m not too savvy when it comes to electronic stuff, but as I did my research and found that this Blu-ray device was one of the better recommended models, I bought it and have been very satisfied. One thing that surprised me is that as the technology improves with blu-rays, this device’s software can download updated versions to handle those changes as they occur, thus keeping it current longer than those that cannot change with the times.
The overall quality of the product is great. I highly recommend it…

5 Stars Awesome TV
I have this model since a month and have found it exceptionally good. The colors are vivid and black is close to perfect. The built-in Blu-Ray player is a boon. Saves space and perfect when it is hung on a wall.
The TV can be swung left or right on the stand. That is neat. With Aquos brand, you can buy with confidence. After all, Sharp is a pioneer in LCD technology.
The only problem i think is that when you insert the Blu Ray disk, it takes quite some time to read it and start the movie.
5 Stars Great value & product - super sharp and good color rendition
This is our first LCD HDTV to replace our Sony rear-projection HDTV. We have it now for a month, and we are very happy with it.
Prior to placing the order, I visited a local electronic store comparing Sharp TV with other name brands. This particular model was not available in the showroom at the time. At the first, I was not totally impressed with Sharp’s HDTV because it did not have as good black level and contrast comparing to Sony XBR series. After researching on the internet, I learned that this model has many of same features and use the same technologies employed by Sharp last year’s Special Edition HDTV that costed around $5K range. I went ahead and placed the order.
The new monitor arrived in good condition. The initial setup was quick and easy, simply follwing its wizard. The setup procedure picked up many analog and clear QAM channels off the cable. I particularly like its feature that allows me to surf both analog and digital channels without switching between the modes like other DVR machine does. I could also individually define which channel to skip. Its remote allows me to program my favorite channels as “quick keys”. Very nice feature.
Out of box color is vivid and vibrant, and the black level is deep just like other more expensive Sony XBRs. This TV comes with advanced video tuning capabilities. Besides the typical backlighting, contrast, brightness, sharpness and tint, I could fine-tune white balance, individual color channels. I found this TV only requires minor brightness adjustment to suit my viewing preferences. This TV “shines” when playing back Blu-Ray material such as Pirate of Caribbean with its built-in player.
This TV has plenty of input/output connectors. Specifically, I like the fact it has an optical audio output to my home theater system. BTW, that is a must because the built-in speakers is very wimpy.
For anyone who is thinking about buying a LCD HDTV, you will not regret with this one.
5 Stars very pleased with this set.
picture quality is excellent. sharp is an innovator in lcd technology and is well worth comparing to samsung or sony. it is a beautiful set and the built in blu-ray makes for less clutter. plenty of inputs and outputs. would recommend to friend.
5 Stars Sharp Aquos LC52Bd80U
Very happy with recent purchase of the Sharp Aquos 52 inch HDTV. The quality of the picture is excellent. The biggest problem was getting the satellite hook up for HD, after that hurdle, it has really been enjoyable watching TV. Haven’t tried the blu-ray player yet, but the satellite installer was impressed with it. This is our first HDTV so we are still exploring all the features. The shipping from Amazon was very quick. We were a bit nervous ordering the TV online without actually seeing it, but the delivery went well and we are happy with our new TV. We had been looking for almost a year before we made the purchase and we believe we made the right choice.

5 Stars Pioneer BDP-51FD Blu-Ray DVD Player
I have always wanted to purchase this fine player ever since I became serious about purchasing a Blu-Ray Player (as I am in the process of putting together a new Home Theater System). I just want to let Beach Camera know what a commendible job they did in handling my order. I ordered my player on the brink of midnight on Thursday, May 14, 2009 and even with the free shipping and tax free shopping and all, I am pleased to announce that I have received my player on Monday, May 18, 2009 (two days earlier than expected). With this level of Customer Service and the prompt shipment of my order, they pretty much earned my business as a customer, and I will be doing business with them again in the future.
Great Job Beach Camera!!!!
5 Stars A super Blu Ray Player at a bargain price.
This player has everything that I was looking for in a player. I wanted a player that could not only deliver a great picture but great sound as well. It has all the latest high definition sound formats including Dolby HD and DTS. Since my sound system is a dedicated, non intergrated arrangement, it has all the necessary pre-amp style dedicated outputs. I simply plug them into the dedicated power amplifiers themselves and allow the player to all decoding. It delivers better than movie theater surround sound. I have since added an hdmi receiver with the same pre-amp features and even more options. The only complaint that I have is the remote control which is not illuminated. I don’t use the supplied remote any more since I purchased a full featured illuminated universal remote control that operates my entire system. Buying through Amazon assured me of getting the best possible price. I am more than happy with my purchase.
Panasonic DMP-BD30K 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

The DMP-BD30 is the next generation High Definition 1080p Blu-ray Disc player. It is the first Blu-ray player to be introduced with Final Standard Profile, which adds a variety of new and enhanced features to the Blu-ray arena and one that separates the Panasonic Blu-ray player from the rest of the field. Also unique to the DMP-BD30 is the inclusion of an SD Memory Card slot for playback of High Definition content recorded in the AVCHD format. The SD slot also allows for viewing of digital still images recorded to an SD Memory Card.Final Standard Profile is an advanced function added to the Blu-ray standard, which opens the door to new functions such as Picture-in-Picture (which displays a second image in a sub window) and Audio Mixing (allows the consumer to switch the sound between the main and sub windows). The inclusion of a multi-function SD Card slot is another new addition to the Panasonic Blu-ray player. Coupled with the AVCHD codec, the DMP-BD30 allows for images recorded on a high capacity HD SD card to be outputted directly from the player’s HDMI terminal in their original 1080p form. To further benefit the user, the DMP-BD30 provides an AVCHD Direct Navigator function that makes it easy to search for particular scenes. The player can also play back JPEG still images on an SD card, such as those recorded with a Panasonic Lumix digital camera. The DMP-BD30 converts the images to 1920×1080 resolution, ideal for viewing on a1080p HD Plasma and output them through the HDMI terminal.Like its predecessor, the DMP-DB30 features the EZ-Sync HDAVI Control that allows the consumer to operate their Panasonic home theater system with one remote. With one touch of the EZ-Sync button, all the components turn on, the correct TV input is chosen, the TV’s built-in speakers are muted and the home theater starts playback.Blu-ray means incredible full-HD images, breathtaking sound and 5x the data capacity of DVDs. Now Blu-ray means something else too: an entirely new movie-viewing experience, made possible by Final Standard Profile, which adds features never seen before, like four Picture-in-Picture modes including Enhanced Commentary (from directors and actors), Backstage Pass, Peek Behind the Animation and Audio Mixing.
Images So Real, You Feel Like You’re in the Picture
Combining a PHL Reference Chroma Processor with advanced P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing) imaging technology, UniPhier — the Precise Digital Video processor — reproduces crisp, natural colors that are extremely faithful to the original movie. It does this by up-sampling the color information in decoded video signals, while the super high-speed P4HD up-converts content recorded in 480i/p, 720p or 1080i format to 1080p by correctly generating each pixel according to information drawn from up to 60 surrounding pixels. The image motion of each pixel is then categorized into one of 16 levels, from stationary to super fast. Image quality is further enhanced by Diagonal Processing, which creates smooth, sharp diagonal lines, and 3:2 Pull-Down, which optimizes the processing accordingly for film or video making the images look natural and lifelike. In addition, the DMP-BD30’s HDMI output is Deep Color compatible, with 4,096 steps of gradation for even smoother, finer-quality images that meet Hollywood’s stringent demands, so you can experience movies just the way they were meant to be experienced.
Incredible Sound Completes the Hi-Def Experience
With Precise Digital Audio, Blu-ray’s beautiful images are complemented by exceptionally pure, accurate sound thanks to Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. UniPhier’s advanced processing capability decodes these audio signals with high precision and outputs them in bitstream form with no degradation. It also brings re-mastering to Blu-ray for the first time, which compensates for data lost during the compression process creating a fuller, richer sound.
HD Networking with SD Card
The convenient SD card slot on the DMP-BD30 allows easy viewing of hi-def videos and photos on your HDTV. Videos shot with a Panasonic HD camcorder are output in their original 1920×1080 resolution, while still images taken with a Panasonic Lumix digital camera are up-converted and output in 1920×1080 resolution1.
One-Touch Control from Your TV’s Remote
With EZ Sync HDAVI Control, you can control your Blu-ray Disc player — and all your home theater components — with your TV’s remote2. Simply press the EZ Sync button and select “BD Player” on the menu screen; the BD player’s menu will be displayed and you can begin playback.

5 Stars Great standalone!
I have owned this for two months and have nothing but good thigns to say about it. Load/start-up time is MUCH quicker than my other blu-ray player (Samsung BDP1400) and from what I have read, much quicker than most blu-ray players. i would say that it takes about 15 seconds to get going, which is not bad at all. The upconversion from SD dvd’s is amazing and the Blu-rays look out of this world.
The only complaint I have is that the remote is not backlit and when you are watching TV in the dark it can become annoying.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this player to anyone looking to buy a stand-alone.
