Studio: Infinity Resources Inc Release Date: 01/13/2009Mamoru Oshii’s landmark Ghost in the Shell (1995) largely defined the cyberpunk genre and influenced the Matrix films in the U.S. The long-awaited sequel continues the adventures of Batou, Major Kusanagi’s former assistant, who was left behind when she disappeared into the cyber-realm of the Net. With his new human partner, Togusa, Batou investigates a series of bloody murders involving gynoids, robots with sexual functions. The case leads them to the headquarters of the Locus Solus company, where Batou uncovers the evil secret behind the creation of the gynoids. Innocence includes some staggeringly beautiful CG images, especially a parade depicting characters from Chinese mythology. Oshii contrasts this glittering beauty with a Blade Runner-esque dystopia. But even his skill as a director can’t disguise the fact that the underdeveloped story and flat characters are far less interesting than the opulent visuals. (Rated PG-13: graphic violence, violence against women, brief nudity, profanity, alcohol and tobacco use.) –Charles Solomon

5 Stars Blu-ray review
Awesome. This is the way it was meant to be. Much cleaner and the audio in english. I never would have bought the dvd if I knew this day would come. It wasn’t even this clear in the theatre. Bandai did what dreamworks didn’t, not just slapping it straight to video but actually formating it properly.

5 Stars Amazon, quit blending the DVD releases with the Blu-ray!
The Blu-Ray of this movie is awesome, they have fixed the mistakes of the orginal DVD version, and should be rated overall five stars, the problem, Amazon, has mixed the reviews from the old dvd with the blu ray, skewing the star results and reviews, Amazon, needs to keep the review for DVDs and Blu rays seperate, even if its the same movie the format is different an offers different things, and I would like to see reviews for the blu ray not the old dvd. If you agree Let your voices be heard..

3 Stars Great movie, but English track sucks.
I was really excited to see the English voice actors come back and do voice work. Problem is the English dialogue is unbalanced and incredibly loud while the great sound FX in the movie are muffled terribly. Luckily the Japanese track sounds great. If I had known the english track was so bad, I would have stayed with the DVD.

5 Stars Visually Stunning, Brain Recommended But Not Required
This movie is called both “Intellectually Weak,” and “In love with its own intelligence” Clearly, that alone makes this film worth your time and worth forming your own opinion about.

The thing is, this is not a stupid film by any means. ‘Visually stunning,’ it is constantly called, but it’s not just that: It’s an assault on the senses (in a good way), both visually and aurally. The sound is incredible, the images stick with you. Even a simple, seemingly underthought image like the final two shots of the movie will stick with you long after the closing credits roll.

But how is the story? I haven’t seen the original in years, but this one held my attention, and kept my brain engaged. I give this one an enthusiastic thumbs up, plus a wink and a smile. It FEELS like the middle chapter in a story… there is too much left unresolved, and while seeing the first one isn’t necessary to understanding this one, there ARE many references the original “Ghost in the Shell.” It’s not so much a continuation of the story, as it is a continuation of the characters. Which I think is the better call.

Constant quotes from literature is not a sign of intellectual weakness, I don’t think. People accuse the movie of not having a brain of its own, but I think any movie that engages the brain of its audience needn’t make apologies. This one remains interesting on all levels; I just hope it doesn’t take them another nine years to produce part three.

5 Stars May not be for everyone, but for me its pro.
This title divides fans a lot, and understandably so. When compared to the original, there is a distinct sameness present as well as a the mostly missing Major. While this detracts from many people enjoyment of this film, I still liked the characters, and plot enough to wholeheartedly recommend a viewing. Though not up to the standard of the original (and really, not much is) this effort forwards the tale exceptionally well.

Chuck Bartowski, ace computer geek at the BuyMore, is not in his right mind. That’s a good thing. Ever since he unwittingly downloaded stolen government secrets into his brain, action, excitement and a cool secret- agent girlfriend have entered his life. It’s a bad thing, too. Because now Chuck is in danger 24/7.

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Where is the Main Title Sequence?
There is definitely something lacking with this set. I have only made it part way through disk1, but I am livid. Ok, I had to come back and update this review. Near the end of Disk 1 they finally started showing the opening sequence. Still rather odd though.

I still can’t believe Warners can’t do better than this. This is Not their first DVD. They should be embarrassed and ashamed. We ALL know how this is “Supposed” to work, they bring up a splash screen that plays snippets of the theme song in the background, on the menu you have options like “Episodes” and “Extras” and “Commentary”. I am not sure why they designed the disk this way, but after it forced me to watch all of the episodes, it finally came up with a main menu. Very very strange. Up to that point I had to use the the pop-up menu, puh-lease :(. I hope this is not what I should expect from new BluRay releases anytime soon. Obviously, we all absolutely love the show and pity this travesty of transfer to video, that is why it hurts so very very much.

Other than that I have to say something else (positive) that other people seem to have missed…

So I just want to say, “Adam Baldwin”. I was not a fan. His performance always felt forced in FireFly. I never saw him before that. So, I was not pleased to see him on the roster for this show.

But here, in this show, his stiffness Really Really works for the character! I have seen many actors pushed on the agonized public in roles that did not fit…until they finally found a vehicle that was tailor-made for the actor. Well, this IS the vehicle for Adam Baldwin! All of his idiosyncrasies just fit perfectly with this character…his facial contortions, his rage…its just AWESOME. HaHa! He completes a strong ensemble cast, the type of thing that made Seinfeld the instant classic that it is (not that I am comparing). I am glad to say now that I can be a fan of yet another one of those Baldwins (whether or not he’s related and whether or not I share their political views).

In addition, this show actually has, sort of, a Dual-layered ensemble cast, in that the Buy More characters are also strong and worth watching in their own right. They could almost have their own show!

Unfortunately, I have to grade this product on the DVD transfer since I Think most people already know how great the show is. I would not want anyone to get the impression that they should buy the BluRay over the DVD version. I just can’t say that, with the poor menuing, the lack of opening theme and the lack of HD quality this product is a definite misfire. Having watched all the DVDs now, I did notice that the HD quality gets better as the series progresses.

Still, My experience has been, that with an upscaled DVD you would get more consistent looking results throughout which I think would be a bonus. I had the same experience with Battlestar Galactica 4.5. I really really wish I had just bought that on DVD too. TV shows may just not be completely ready for HD yet. SO…Buyer Beware.

4 Stars Chuck First Season Blue-Ray
The series is great with good stories and mostly great acting. Always fun to watch Sarah! The Blu-Ray transfer is a little soft on some episodes, but still nice to watch.

5 Stars I LOVE Chuck, but the Blue-Ray quality does suck on this.
I couldn’t bear to put a bad rating on this, just because people might think I don’t love Chuck S1, but I give Chuck season 1 itself 5 stars. The quality of the Blue-Ray is pretty bad though. I’ll just echo what all the other reviewers said … it’s just really grainy, especially in scenes where the background is a bright/light color. Such as scenes shot outside during the daytime, or scenes shot against a white wall in the background. I wish I could see what the non-Blue-Ray version looked like, if it’s any better than this. I hope the quality of season 2 is much better.

1 Stars Grainy Grainy Grainy
I really like this show, so this 1 star review is not for the content, but rather the quality of the blu-ray. I very rarely write reviews but the quality of this transfer is SO BAD that it is distracting. It is so grainy, it looks worse than standard definition TV. I’m not using low end equipment either - I have an OPPO Blu-Ray with a top of the line Panasonic plasma (V10 series). Really the only part that’s watchable is the opening credits (somehow those animated images look like glass) - but the actual show is horrible quality - really the only way to describe it is “grainy to the point of distracting”.

One comment though - I’ve read some reviews where people say they can’t choose the individual episodes to watch - that is somewhat true for me insofar as there is no “top menu”. However with my blu-ray I have an option on my remote for a “pop-up menu” and if I go there I can then select the episode to watch (hint: the order of the episodes go from left to right, not top to bottom).

So I’m not saying not to get this show, but do not expect high-def quality from the blu-ray, because it isn’t.

Enjoy.

-Nick

5 Stars A nerds ultimate fantasy.
This show at first looked a bit laughable to me, but I assure you this is a well concieved series. All the actors have been chosen with great care, and they interact with one another as though they had been working with eachother their entire lives. They have great chemistry in every scene, it’s like they’re best friends in real life. The show has alot of comedy which is only broken up by action and dramatic story telling. What I love about the show is it’s many referances to movies, television, and video games. Chuck is not James Bond, not even close in fact. It is hilarious watching him try to fit into the world of espionage. He does have two bodyguards Sarah and Casey to protect him. Sarah the beautiful young blonde that is sent to be his boyfriend (lucky guy), and Casey is the heavy artillary side of the team. It’s really fun to see Chucks and Sarah’s relationship grow throughout the season. They clearly have great chemistry and that leads to some romantic moments. It’s sorta like on LOST with Jack and Kate you know they want to be with eachother but the plot dictates otherwise just teasing you here and there. Chuck also has a best friend Morgan who is responsible for most of the laughs as we watch his pathetic life, and the way he clings to Chuck’s every move. Chuck and his family really keep the show grounded and really relatable to the every day guy. This show began well and only got better in season 2.

The picture quality is another thing all together. It has grain in almost every frame. I advise you watch it in the worst definition available in order to hide the grain somewhat. I reccommend that you buy the DVD, it still is grainy but atleast the grain isn’t in high def which makes it worse. Chuck surpasses the picture quality with it’s amazing characters and stories. The extras are decent with some deleted scenes, a gag reel, and audition footage. The series is a mix of Alias, Mission Impossible, and Get Smart. It is the ultimate comedy hour mixed with great action.

In a world where loyalties are easily abandoned and allegiances can be bought, a new and deadlier terrorist threat has emergedfree agent killers! Featuring “high-octane action” (Gene Shalit, “Today”), a “first-rate cast” (L.A. Daily News) and exhilarating car chases that “are nothing short of sensational” (The New York Times), Ronin is “the real deal in action fireworks” (Rolling Stone) directed by “a master of intelligent thrillers” (Roger Ebert). The Cold War may be over, but a new world order keeps a group of covert mercenaries employed by the highest bidder. These operatives, known as “Ronin,” are assembled in France by a mysterious client for a seemingly routine mission: steal a top-secret briefcase. But the simple task soon proves explosive asother underworld organizations vie for the same prize…and to get the job done, the members of Ronin must do something they’ve never done beforetrust each other!Robert De Niro stars as an American intelligence operative adrift in irrelevance since the end of the Cold War–much like a masterless samurai, a.k.a. “ronin.” With his services for sale, he joins a renegade, international team of fellow covert warriors with nothing but time on their hands. Their mission, as defined by the woman who hires them (Natascha McElhone), is to get hold of a particular suitcase that is equally coveted by the Russian mafia and Irish terrorists. As the scheme gets underway, De Niro’s lone wolf strikes up a rare friendship with his French counterpart (Jean Reno), gets into a more-or-less romantic frame of mind with McElhone, and asserts his experience on the planning and execution of the job–going so far as to publicly humiliate one team member (Sean Bean) who is clearly out of his league. The story is largely unremarkable–there’s an obligatory twist midway through that changes the nature of the team’s business–but legendary filmmaker John Frankenheimer (Seconds, The Manchurian Candidate) leaps at the material, bringing to it an honest tension and seasoned, breathtaking skill with precision-action direction. The centerpiece of the movie is an honest-to-God car chase that is the real thing: not the how-can-we-top-the-last-stunt cartoon nonsense of Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon), but a pulse-quickening, kinetic dance of superb montage and timing. In a sense, Ronin is almost Frankenheimer’s self-quoting version of a John Frankenheimer film. There isn’t anything here he hasn’t done before, but it’s sure great to see it all again. –Tom Keogh

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Action !
Awesome movie! If your looking for a blu ray movie that has everything from top notch acting to non stop action, then this is the movie for you. The blu ray quality is crystal clear unlike some blu ray movies I’ve bought and had to return! The audio separation is fantastic in this movie. Nothing is more frustrating to me than buying a blu ray movie that is not recorded in Dolby HD, DTS HD or uncompressed HD. Isn’t this why so many of us have bought blu ray players? I hate when the movie studios repackage older movies to blu ray and don’t bother to change the audio formate. I don’t know why but it seems like every movie Tom Cruise is in doesn’t have HD audio, from the Mission Imposable trio to the Last Samurai. I feel if your paying for a HD movie, the movie should come with HD sound!! Anyways, you won’t find a better movie for action than Ronin!

1 Stars Blu-ray not worth the purchase!
This is one of my favorite movies. Unfortunately, MGM decided to pull a fast one and release a lobotomized Blu-ray version.

First of all, it uses old-school, low bitrate MPEG-2 encoding (so much for the the “superior” picture quality of Blu-Ray).

Fine, I could have lived with that… except for the fact that, as others have mentioned, the Blu-ray release contains absolutely no special features at all! None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Not even the stuff on the DVD release! WTF!?!?

I suppose MGM will eventually come out with a “Special Edition” Blu-Ray with the missing features, expecting us to also purchase that. No Way!!!

I’m returning this for a refund. I’ve spent quite a bit of money buying stuff off of Amazon over the years, and this is the first time I’m returning anything. It should tell you how ticked off I am about this.

Also, Amazon really needs to segregate the reviews for the Blu-ray release from the DVD reviews. It’s sometimes very difficult to wade through 100s of reviews to find out if the Blu-ray release is worth buying over the DVD release.

5 Stars A Gem
Great story, Great acting and one of the best car chase scens on film. Enough said

5 Stars The best car chase scenes ever put on film
I have seen this movie many times and finally saw a good price on Blue-Ray and AZ so I picked it up. The Blue_Ray quality is very good but does not blow you away. So, I would say If you have a good DVD version, you may not need the Blue-Ray.

Now on to the movie: Every time I see this movie I am amazed at the car scenes. How did they film this on location Paris, Nice without killing anyone (maybe they did and I just don’t know about it)? The direction and how the cameras do not jitter at high speeds are amazing. It never looks like any of this was shot at slow speeds and then had the film sped up.

While, some might say the plot is contrived, I disagree. I thought the plot was very good and engaging. It created interest in all the characters early on and throughout the movie.

But if you like car chase scenes, you need this movie in your collection with Bullitt, 7 ups, Vanishing Point, French Connection, Bourne Indentity. I’m sure I’m missing some, just Google the rest.

4 Stars Ronin Rocks!!!!
This is one of the most underated movies I have ever seen. Not only does it have a phenomenal cast….but the acting and action are awesome. I highly recommend this movie for anyone who enjoys a good suspense or action flick with more than a one line plot summary.

Wild Ocean is an uplifting cinematic experience capturing one of natures greatest migration spectacles through the magic of IMAX. Plunge into an underwater feeding frenzy amidst the dolphins, sharks, whales, gannets, seals and billions of fish. Filmed off the Wild Coast of South Africa, Wild Ocean is a timely documentary that celebrates the animals that now depend on us to survive and the efforts by local people to protect this invaluable ecological resource. Hope is alive on the Wild Coast where Africa meets the sea.

4 Stars Good photography - Terrible Narration
I usually give all my IMAX movies 5 stars because they are so awesome in every aspect, video and audio. The only reason why I didn’t give this video 5 stars is because of the terrible narration - it’s hard to understand and even hear, for that matter! I also feel that the environmental message that this movie was created for should have been stressed more prominently to convey it’s message.

5 Stars Great film, great score, great message
I saw the movie Wild Ocean 3D at the Imax theater in the Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., over Christmas Break. It is an amazing experience. It was of course in 3D.

The filmmakers take you to one of the few remaining stretches of wild coastline, the KwaZulu-Natal Wild Coast in South Africa, where you observe the migration of millions of fish and the various biosystems that these fish support - sharks, dolphins, whales, gannets, people. It is Africa by the sea, and it is stunning.

I especially loved the musical score. Composed by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, the people who created STOMP Live, it is a pulsing, engaging, and outsize score for an outsize film about an outsize landscape. I loved it!

The underlying message is, of course, the disappearance of wild ecosystems and what must be done to prevent more loss. Great movie, great message.

5 Stars Outstanding
This Wild Ocean 3D bluray movie is absolutely superb and stunning!!! I am so glad I purchased it. I watched it twice at an IMAX theatre and now I have already watched it twice on my computer-and I just received it yesterday!! The music conveys a feeling of teamwork-individual efforts toward a common greater good. I also want to buy the Soundtrack for it. This movie scores a 15 on a chart of 10!!! Again, absolutely superb and stunning!!!!!!!!! One of the best purchases I ever made!!!!!

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker reteam with Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster for the ultimate chapter of the franchise built on speed! From big rig heists to precision tunnel crawls, Fast & Furious takes you back into the high-octane world to race through crowded city streets and across international lines!Fast & Furious is high octane torque-er porn that puts the franchise back on course after drifting in Tokyo. With the original cast once again in the driver’s seat, we are good to go with a this-time-it’s-personal plot and spectacular race and chase set-pieces that exceed the promise of the stripped-down title, beginning with an awesome highway hijacking of an oil truck led by former street racer Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel, at his glowering and gravel-voiced best). Dom is a fugitive in the Dominican Republic, but after a devastating personal loss, he is driven by revenge to return to Los Angeles to bring down an elusive drug smuggler. He is reunited with Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker), the undercover FBI agent who let him go eight years earlier. Brian, also on the case, must come to terms with Dom and make amends with Dom’s sister (Jordana Brewster), whom he betrayed in his original pursuit of Dom. Fast & Furious is just the ticket for putting your mind on cruise control. From a see-what-you’ve-got racing challenge through the streets of L.A. to the illicit kicks of the street-racing subculture (this is extreme PG-13), there is nothing cheap about these thrills. A record-shattering opening weekend at the box office could mean faster and more furious action to come, but if this is the franchise’s last time around the block, it goes out a winner. –Donald Liebenson
Stills from Fast & Furious (Click for larger image)

I have to say this is a must see movie. i have seen all movies and own all on dvd (die hard fandf fan). The day i went to watch this when it first came out we literally checked my blood pressure and it was high thats how intense i though this movie was. I thought there for a second that everything was gonna be over between paul and vin but no. Still at each others side even after everything that went down. I am hoping they come out with another so if you dont have this one go see it right now.

Best of all the Fast & Furious movies, and way better than the third, this one goes back to the original story in a well-written, well-acted way. actionpacked way. It has all the originals in it, and is the best directed movie I’ve ever seen. I gave it five stars because it’s badass, and I’m gonna watch it over and over again until my retinas explode.

Do not watch this movie for plot or the great acting, it is not a classic but for pure entertainment, lot’s of action, and great fast cars: then you found the right movie.

This is the second best movie in the Fast & Furious series with the first one being the best of the series.

From the award-winning director of Pride & Prejudice comes a stunning, critically acclaimed epic story of love. When a young girl catches her sister in a passionate embrace with a childhood friend, her jealousy drives her to tell a lie that will change the course of all their lives forever. Academy Award® nominee Keira Knightley and James McAvoy lead an all-star cast in the film critics are calling “the year’s best picture” (Thelma Adams, US Weekly).

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Stars One of the Worst Movies I Have Ever Seen!!
I saw this movie the year it won the Oscar and I was bored beyond belief. The movie goes from child erotic/peeping-tom/I am gonna watch my sister get boinked/OMG! This movie has a great cast but the story is so chaotically told and disjointed you lose focus and interest almost from the get-go.

5 Stars A very special film
I agree with Jean, and will certainly be buying this on Blu-ray when it comes out. The movie was original, surprising (both in its plot and its unusual structure) and moving. It’s worth seeing it just for the 5 1/2 minute steadicam shot halfway through the movie on the beach at Dunkirk. I just learned from an interview with the screenwriter that it was shot that way for budgetary reasons, but it’s a superb example of a happy “accident” becoming cinematic art. Performances and technical credits are all top notch. See it!

1 Stars Ridiculous coincidences
This movie has so many ridiculous coincidences going on (imagine everytime you do something in private, someone is peeping in on you), it’s impossible to take it seriously for one minute. A horrible adaptation of an overated book.

5 Stars Masterpiece
Atonement is one of the most engaging and perfect films i have ever seen. I saw this film when it was released in the cinemas and i loved it. I bought the DVD version and I loved it on that also. I will definitely buy Atonement on Blu-Ray even if it doesn’t have any new special features. This film, if I my say, should of won Best Picture at the Oscars and not No Country For Old Men, also Atonement, Micheal Clayton, and There Will Be Blood were masterpieces in themselves.

5 Stars An Apt Masterpiece on a Beautiful Blu-ray
Having been released previously on DVD and the failed HD-DVD format back in 2008, this re-release of the film, now on the Blu-ray format, is a welcomed addition to any Blu-ray HiDef library. A powerful film, Atonement is a complicated and fruitful adaption of Ian McEwan’s novel of the same name that Director Joe Wright carried out masterfully. The story focuses on numerous themes (that I will not spoil for anyone who has yet to see this gem) that anyone can relate to, and it serves as a reminder of what power not only the spoken word can have on a person’s life, but also the written word as well, as recorded by recent headlines. It offers breathtaking cinematography that could only be improved by the HD transfer of the film and brilliant performances by an incredible cast that no one should miss. Actors Kiera Knightley, James McAvoy, Saoirse Ronan, and Romola Garai ignite the screen with the emotional depth and characterizations that each bring to their portrayals, with a powerful close of the film with the astonishing and always captivating performance of Vanessa Redgrave. Universal has performed incredible work in the past with their Blu-ray transfers of films like Hellboy 2, Wanted, and the Bourne trilogy, and with a resume like that, we can confidently acknowledge that this film’s presentation on Blu-ray will be top notch. Don’t miss out on purchasing this product!

In April 2007, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds embarked on a 3-city theatre tour, culminating with a performance in the intimate confines of Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Due to the smaller sized venues and extremely limited number of dates, tickets were practically impossible to get, making this new 2 disc Blu-ray set all the more desirable to the huge Dave Matthews Band fanbase. LIVE AT RADIO CITY marks the first time in almost ten years that Dave and Tim have released an album. Their last album was the wildly successful, multi-platinum LIVE AT LUTHER COLLEGE. This is the first-ever Blu-ray Disc released by the duo. LIVE AT RADIO CITY features over 2 1/2 hours of music, capturing all 26 songs of Dave and Tim’s performance. The performance includes numerous songs that have never been recorded by the two, including Crush, Grace Is Gone, Don t Drink The Water, Gravedigger and many more.

Not that it was any easier to get tickets to the April 22, 2007, concert in New York that produced this recording, available on CD or DVD with high-definition 5.1 surround sound and an additional 46-minute film of backstage footage. The acoustic set features the veteran musicians performing for nearly two-and-a-half hours–and you get the feeling they could have easily kept going. Reynolds gets his solo turn on “Betrayal” and “You Are My Sanity,” but it’s a chatty Matthews who seems to be relishing the occasion more, stripping down some of his band’s most popular songs (”Lie in Our Graves,” “Two Step”) while giving the fans a sneak peek at a couple of its new ones (”Eh Hee,” “Cornbread”). The guy’s even thrown in a few covers for kicks, including Neil Young’s “Down by the River” and Daniel Lanois’ “The Maker.” In terms of audio quality and packaging, it marks a vast improvement over the pair’s first release, 1999’s Live at Luther College. And the best part is that it doesn’t cost more than a yacht. –Aidin Vaziri

5 Stars Wonderful!
This is a review for the blu-ray edition.

I’ve never been a big Dave Matthews fan and I’ve only heard [of] Tim Reynolds a few times. Watching this concert made me really appreciate the amount of talent and passion for music they both have.

Audio quality is superb. The concert comes with 3 sound options: TrueHD 5.1, Dolby 5.1, and PCM stereo. I’m partial to stereo tracks, and therefore the PCM 2.0 on this disc, but the TrueHD track was also very impressive. You may as well not even bother with the Dolby 5.1 track. Video quality is also very good, but I wouldn’t have cared either way - they nailed the audio on this disc and, to me, that’s what’s important for a concert.

5 Stars One of the best recorded BD… i wonder how it will be with the complete band…
Concert itself: 5 stars

Video quality: 5 stars

Audio quality: 5 stars

Extras: 3 stars

Others: The audio is simply perfect… but doesnt have low frecuencies for obvious reasons…

5 Stars Absolutely stunning
This concert is just magical, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds are perfection together. I’ve seen many musicians play the acoustic guitar but Tim Reynolds is a master! What he can do with a guitar is magical. You will not be disappointed purchasing this concert dvd, trust me.

5 Stars Dave and Tim do it again!
I’ve thought for some years that Dave and Tim make a great musical duo. This DVD is simply fantastic. No big band, sax, keys, drums yadda yadda just straight up good guitar and vocals. Blu ray makes it all that much better.

5 Stars Classic and Pure
Well i own this on DVD not blu-ray but the sound and the atmosphere of Radio City is just beautiful. Tim is amazing as he makes it seem, if you close your eyes, that there are more than just 2 people playing. Dave is brilliant as always. His voice brings chills on most tracks such as “So Damn Lucky” and “Crush”.

You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

“If you build it, he will come.” With these words, Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) is inspired by a voice he can’t ignore to pursue a dream he can hardly believe. Also starring Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones and Amy Madigan, Field of Dreams is an extraordinary and unforgettable experience that has moved critics and audiences like no other film of its generation. Field of Dreams is a glowing tribute to all who dare to dream.A phenomenal hit when it was released in 1989, Field of Dreams has become a modern classic and a uniquely American slice of cinema. It functions effectively as a moving drama about the power of dreams, a fantasy ode to our national pastime, and a brilliant adaptation of W.P. Kinsella’s exquisite baseball novel Shoeless Joe. Kinsella himself found the film a delightful surprise, differing greatly from his novel but benefiting from its own creative variations. It is the film that cemented Kevin Costner’s status as an all-American screen star, but the story resonates far beyond Costner’s handsome appeal. As just about everyone knows by now, Costner stars as Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella, who hears the mysterious words “If you build it, he will come,” and is compelled to build a baseball diamond in the middle of his cornfield. His wife (Amy Madigan) supports the wild idea, but a reclusive novelist (modeled after J.D. Salinger and played by James Earl Jones) is not so easily persuaded. The idealistic farmer is either a visionary or a deluded fool, but his persistence is rewarded when spirits from baseball’s past begin appearing on the ball field. Past and present intermingle in the person of “Moonlight Graham” (superbly played by Burt Lancaster), an unknown player who sacrificed his dreams of baseball glory for a dignified life as a small-town physician … but what all of this means is unclear until the film’s memorably heartfelt conclusion. A meditation on family, memory, and faith, the film balances humor and magic to strike just the right chord of thoughtful emotion, affecting audiences so deeply that the baseball field created for the production has now become a mecca of sorts for dreamers around the world. –Jeff ShannonA phenomenal hit when it was released in 1989, Field of Dreams has become a modern classic and a uniquely American slice of cinema.
5 Stars The original Fantasy Baseball
How many men get to pursue their dreams? “Field of Dreams” is one man’s quest to realize his one big moment. However, unlike most sports movies, the main character (Kevin Costner) isn’t a star athlete, but rather a farmer who puts his faith in a mysterious voice from above. He goes around the country trying to figure out the connection between baseball and life - until he realizes it was all within himself. For sheer originality and creativity, the film is an easy 5-stars. The movie keeps you guessing and never fails to surprise. You certainly don’t have to be a baseball fan to enjoy it - but you do have to accept that there are a bunch of baseball ghosts wandering around Iowa! Probably the best sports movie I’ve ever seen.

1 Stars Only plays on HD player, nothing else.
Should warn consumers that product will only play on HD player..nothing else, not DVD player or blu-ray player. Renders product virtually worthless.

4 Stars Great Movie, less than special blue ray video
This is my all time favorite movie so I thought I would get a blue ray version. Blue ray version is nothing special when compared to any up-convert DVD version of the same movie. Blue ray did not have any wow factor when I compare it to other blue ray movies I have watched, like the recently released Star Trek movie which did produce that wow factor.

5 Stars Awesome Movie!
This is a movie that you could watch over and over again. I love the plot behind it, and the kids even enjoy watching it. Baseball has always been a favorite with my son, ever since he was 2 (he’s now 10). I would recommend this movie to friends and family.

5 Stars Fabulous Blu ray !
Anyone expecting perfection from a film this old is nuts !! The blu ray is mostly excellent on my set(sony XBR). Classic, classic movie

Our hero is Remy, a French rat (voiced by Patton Oswalt) with a cultivated palate, who rises from his humble beginnings to become head chef at a Paris restaurant. How this happens is the stuff of Pixar magic, that ineffable blend of headlong comedy, seamless technology, and wonder (in the latter department, this movie’s views of nighttime Paris are on a par with French cinema at its most lyrical). Director Brad Bird (The Incredibles) doesn’t quite keep all his spinning plates in the air, but the gags are great and the animation amazingly expressive–Remy’s shrugs and nods are nimbler than many flesh-and-blood actors can manage. Refreshingly, the movie’s characters aren’t celebrity-reliant, with the most recognizable voice coming from Peter O’Toole’s snide food critic. (This fellow provides the film’s sole sour note–an oddly pointed slap at critics, those craven souls who have done nothing but rave about Pixar’s movies over the years.) Brad Bird’s style is more quick-hit and less resonant than the approach of Pixar honcho John Lasseter, but it’s hard to complain about a movie that cooks up such bountiful pleasure. –Robert Horton

4 Stars Hail French Cooking!
I purchased this one for a California artist friend who just returned from sabatical in France. While there, she was told that she had a “French nose.” It seems that what she’d grown so used to seeing in the mirror had a talent! A means to detect the unique, the illusive, the earnestly sought after! Odors, well-acclaimed in French culinary circles! Crazy! I told her that the mouse in this movie had one too, suggesting she watch him brew up hilarity when her day started out dark and dreary. And to create! Soup! Enough soup to fill the house with glorious smells!

5 Stars A feast for the eyes and the soul
While this is possibly one of the most uncommon movie story lines that one could imagine, the genius of Brad Bird and Pixar turns what I would have normally expected to be a generic family movie into a feast for the eyes and the soul. The movie, the audio, and the story are all wonderfully entertaining and on Blu-Ray the quality is that of the theater itself in both visual and audio fidelity. It is a highly recommended movie for family times and there are moments in the movie which are truly moving in a way that only Pixar seems able to do. My compliments to the chefs at Pixar for delivering this one as it is a dish that is best served multiple times and goes down well at every sitting, even years after originally seeing it in theaters…

Summit Twilight (Blu-ray)The big-screen adaptation ofTwilight, Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling vampire romance, is aimed squarely at its key demographic: teen girls whose idea of Prince Charming is a brooding, pale, undead teen who could kill you instantly at any moment. Such a prince is more fascinating than frightening to new girl Bella Swan (KristenStewart), who moves to the rainy-gray town of Forks, Wash., to live with her dad (Billy Burke), thelocal sheriff who’s puzzled by a series of “animal attacks.” On her first day at school, Bella appears to (visibly) nauseate her lab partner, Edward (Robert Pattinson). Turns out the scent of her blood is this vampire’s “brand of heroin,” and his struggle not to kill her causes an irresistible pulltoward her. Whether he’s attracted for the normalreasons or because she smells especially sweet tohim is vague in the book and even less clear on-screen; nonetheless, Bella falls hopelessly in lovewith Edward, which sets her on a dangerous path when a few nomad vampires show up in town, one particularly keen on tracking the human. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen), Twilight is full offunny moments–not all of which are intentional–and the casting, from Stewart to Bella’s self-absorbed friend Jessica (Anna Kendrick) is spot-on.The big-screen adaptation of Twilight, Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling vampire romance, is aimed squarely at its key demographic: teen girls whose idea of Prince Charming is a brooding, pale, undead teen who could kill you instantly at any moment. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen), Twilight is full of funny moments–not all of which are intentional–and the casting, from Stewart to Bella’s self-absorbed friend Jessica (Anna Kendrick) is spot-on. The weakest link, unfortunately, is Pattinson. While he certainly looks the part, his Edward could have used an extra injection of testosterone (Pattinson, who is British, used James Dean as a model for his American accent). In scenes where he growls about the temptation to kill those who would harm Bella, or flitting around a forest warning her how dangerous he is, he comes off more like a whimpering puppy than a debonair monster. The good news is, his chemistry with Stewart (particularly in their big kissing scene) is palpable, which, let’s face it, is really what matters to Twilight fans most. –Ellen A.
On the DVD
The special features for Twilight kick off with an audio commentary with director Catherine Hardwicke and stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. There’s some mumbling and groaning from Stewart (one gets the impression that Stewart is quite similar to her reserved character in the film), some standard behind-the-scenes observations from Hardwicke, and a lot of awkward self-deprecating remarks from Pattinson (of their big kiss, he opines: “This is quite difficult ’cause I have a really flat head, and so it’s quite difficult to get a correct angle.”). What’s funny is Pattinson stumping Hardwicke with some basic plot questions, like “Why doesn’t James just kill [Bella when she's packing at her house]?” While Hardwicke and Stewart attempt to answer, Pattinson doesn’t appear satisfied. The deleted and extended scenes include an additional dream-sequence kiss (rightly cut because it took away from the buildup to their first kiss) and more footage of Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre). The seven-part documentary is a pretty thorough look at the development of the film, including stunts, special effects, and the involvement of author Stephenie Meyer. Another featurette looks at the Comic-Con frenzy; however, it spends no time on how the actors were cast, which would have been fun for fans who did all their own mental casting while reading the books. Also included: three music videos and trailers. –Ellen A. Kim

5 Stars In Love with Twilight
I read all of the books. I decided to read Twilight the book before watching the movie. The books have much more going on in them than the movie has time for but ultimately you will not be disappointed. I watched this movie after reading the first book and it allowed me to put faces to the names of the characters as I read the other 3 books in the saga. Each book just kept getting better than the last.

3 Stars Ok
This was an ok movie. The acting left something to be desired it was almost like the girl was embarassed to be in this movie. The book is good.

4 Stars Not the book, but it’s pretty good
After reading all four books of the saga, I have to say the movie doesn’t do the story justice. I watched the movie first, really enjoyed it, and then read all the books. The books were SO much better. The movies just don’t seem to capture the love between the two main characters as well as the story in the books do. In any case, the movie is still pretty good.

1 Stars OMG-X-a-zillion/ tween girl bliss-out.
It’s the same ol’ story: hormonal surges in a 12 year old girl’s development causes her to fall under the spell of a fictitious, tortured male specimen with an otherworldly, androgynous look…a visual fantasy that sells alot of books and movie tickets…guaranteed.

Twilights’ latest star being that tween dream prize, Edward Cullen, a sensitive, brooding vampire scaling giant trees in seconds and living in a secluded sleek, ultra modern glass house in the heavily forested, picture-perfect Pacific Northwest.

To top it off the vampire’s skin shimmers and sparkles like diamonds when exposed to sunlight…have you ever heard of such a horrible, ugly secret?!LOL

The over stated pancake makeup makes the vampires (who live and work among humans in small town Forks)look like distant relatives to Heath Ledgers’ Joker…except without Mr. Ledger’s masterful acting or his skin-crawling menace.

So it’s all about those shrieking 12 year old girls and their demand for prolonged screen time of their vampire heartthrob, Edward. Everyone else and everything else just fades away around him…and the lackluster supporting cast make this very easy.

The central love connection between the dazzled and curious human, Bella, and the diamond skinned, resistant to physical love, immortal prince of darkness, Edward,is dull at best.

Hopefully, the energetic magnetism of the werewolf hottie played by the firecracker man-boy Taylor Lautner will light up the next chapter to keep those tweens gasping for more heartthob.

1 Stars Loses much info from the Book
I read the entire series before seeing the first movie, Tilight, yesterday. I have not seen New Moon. I am not going to comment on the actors or the acting. My biggest dissappointment was with the adaption of the storyline from the book to the screen. The development of the relationship between Bella and Edward is completely lost on screen. The movie takes many lines from the book and places them at odd spots through out the movie. Had they incorporated the lines in the order they appeared in the book, things would make more sense. I understand stand the need to adapt for the screen and time constraints, but there is no excuse here. There were added scenes in the movie that were unneccesary. They could have used that time to clean up the story line.

The biggest diappointment is that they eliminated the ‘AHA’ moments that Edward and Bella each had…the moment when they knew they were all in and completely in love. It happens for Edward (when after painfully ignoring her for six weeks…which is not portrayed in the movie), he hit his limit as 3 boys invite Bella to the dance. Jealousy (a new emotion for him) over takes him and he gives in to his need to speak with her and get to know her. They do not indicate this at all in the movie.

For Bella, this happens after the day trip to the Beach at LaPush. It is there that she learns from Jacob that Edward is a vampire. In the book she is completely overwhelmed with this information. So much so, she spends the evening doing everything not to think about it. The next day, she tries to reconcile what she know about Edward, what Jacob told her, and what she learns on line about vampires. She is clinging to the thought that there are good vampires and Edward is ‘good at heart’. At this time she takes her life changing solo walk in the woods where she processes all this information, finally coming to a decision. Her decision is that no matter what Edward is, the thought of not being with him is too painful and she knows it is too late, that she is ‘in too deep’. She believes in her heart that he is good and won’t hurt her. This walk in the woods and self realization does not occur in the movie.

It is these 2 critical elements that are left out of the movie in combination with the aforementioned issue that that the relationship development between the two characters is out of order, incomplete, and scattered throughout the movie that makes it difficult in the movie to understand how they fall for each other .

A few final points.

1. The movie is overall choppy, with no real sense of passage of time. The relationship in the book develops over a few months (there are 6 weeks alone where they are each quietly tormented by not speaking to each other) and over several conversations. In the movie, is is only a few weeks. The time allowed in the book instills the growth of love, caring and commitment amongst the characters.

2. The relationship with the Cullen family is also much clearer in the book. The line from Alice (at the hotel in Phoenix) is completely cut, but speaks volumes in the book. Alice and Jasper tell Bella that she is all that is important. Edward has been alone for 90 years, and is now happy for the first time and the Cullens will all stand up to protect her. Powerful in the book, not in the movie.

3. The meadow scene was a huge disappointment. It was not when it should have in the story line in the book (in fact I wasn’t even sure it was happening right away when I was watching the movie). It was not a beautiful sunny day, there was no drive or hike to the meadow…I can’t even say in words what was wrong with the meadow scene, just wrong time, wrong setting, not the same revealing conversation as the book, and not the same tenderness and vulnerabilitiy expressed in the book.

4. Bella does not tell him she knows he’s a vampire that night in Port Angeles. In the movie this happens in the forest (the next day I think..combined into the meadow scene) and Edward says ’say it, say it out loud’…out of character for Edward, I thought. This is also an example of the jumbled scenes from book to movie. As a side note, in the movie, I guess he didn’t notice the book she was carrying from the book store about vampires (not in the novel).

5. Edward in the book is dead set against Bella knowing any details about how to become a vampire; yet in the movie, he openly tells her.

6. Alice’s vision of Bella being friends wil Alice and Bella’s future (as dead or a vampire) are not brought to light at all. These visions are a driving factor behind Edward’s actions. I think these are only brought out in Midnight Sun, but are critical and I know Midnight Sun was available at the time of filming.

Overall I am disapoonted that Stephanie Meyers did not have more say in what critical elements made it to screen and the order in which they were portrayed.
